I checked my xanga today and my good friend Erica left this powerful comment :
"parents suck. family sucks. distant relatives suck. i see all the goodness that i've missed out on that i can never gain or regain. friends suck, most come and go, and the ones around here that have remained aren't even my best friends."
In all reality that is almost exactly what I'm going through right now. People say life gets easier as you gain more independence. Its all a lie. Life gets harder and harder as you become more independent because you have to grow up and realize all the playing and laughter of childhood is behind you. You can't just have friends...
you have to worry about yourself first - if you can trust them etc...
And for these reasons life is so unfair.
We grow up in a society where we are literally forced to grow up and look older, act older than we really are. It makes me weep inside to know that there are so many things that people are missing out on because of our society. Because our families are so eager to get us out on our own and start making money so we can help plan for our parents retirement.
I really wish everything wasn't so skewed.
Hell, we feed into this scam. I started smoking so I could look older. Anybody that says they didn't start smoking for that reason [or start just to fit in and look cool] is full of shit. Because this is what we feed into. This is our religion.
